Seal Ourselves to Motivation
When I remember your shyness,
I'm even more curious, I confess,
because of your quiet confidence
(and impatience to those who're dense).
Your dark bright and shining eyes
helped me to discover, to realize
what fiery intelligence you hide
in comments both humorous and snide.
It became clear you are aware,
and that upon much opinion you dare,
on the reasons beneath how many behave.
I thought a much better life you crave.
Your anxieties, and social frustration,
gave me an intellectual elation
that your yearning'd be motivation.
Mine, since, has not reached cessation
but rather drives me to a future
when means allows us to know, for sure,
if our meeting will mean something
and add to what happiness we'll sing
when intelligences can truly savor,
and from social duties not waver,
if we build the life we want.
But only a home run, not a bunt
could win us a better world.
Satisfaction, as a flag unfurled,
must be hard won to create pride.
From ideals, though, we can't hide
in order to accomodate our dreams.
We will need far more than schemes
for our sensitivities to satisfy.
But we will regret
if we fear to try.
Friendship will let
our dreams fly.
With growing trust
sharing grows easy.
And if natural lust
makes us feel queasy,
it is but another test
of our deeper meaning.
We but do our best
if to wisdom leaning
we refine our motives.
To pursue our ideal
we must have votives
by which we can seal
ourselves to motivation.
Such energies fate
one to certain elation
if ideals actions mate.
We must pray and hope
such virtue becomes ours.
If with fears we cope
no such deeds time sours
but from regrets save.
I speak of this so free,
and with you are brave,
because you inspire me!
In praise of ideals, I am, Yours, Steve
