Honourable Stake
If a man's "kingdom" is home
he gives his flowers good loam
and plants seed in right season.
A man is known by his reason.
His woman, though, really rules
and accepts few friendly fools.
Sanctuary, and peace, are at stake
...and only both such could make.
Defend and protect must a man do,
in such a manner he'll never rue...
especially if his lady soon knows
every social grace or not as shows.
And he must, so does, keep heart...
no matter how difficult his part...
for he defends home and his love.
Protects with his honor and strength
all he loves with his entire length
and breadth of his being and soul.
Safety for his lady is prime goal.
Has she felt heard, listened to...
felt she got all attention's her due?
Can he keep her from being blue,
and even her spirit somehow renew?
Can her children truly love him
(not just for some artful whim)?
To do these things must a man be
not only sensitive but also strong,
never allowing but maybe still wrong
and yet willing for her, to change
to learn the whole emotional range
she may need to be happy, content.
Such soft strength is spirit meant
for such love's only if heaven-sent.
