Heavenly Fare

My allegiance to friendship
may not be all that "hip"
but I know its importance.
So much of life is chance
that real value is only earned.

And in my life I have learned
that few people pay the price.
It's so much more than "dice"
that life gives those who try.
True friends can almost fly.

Ungrounded by non-selfishness,
friends don't need to guess...
they have each other's support
if earth somehow comes up short.

On the wings of careful affection,
each chooses whatever direction
and soars toward fulfillment...
lifted by what the other sent
in the air of true & caring words.
In spirit being as free as birds.

In friendship I've come to know
that we both want to grow...
and are unafraid to be true.

I've no doubt I've come to love you.
For many reasons, and for none...
you're in my moon and my sun.

As I think of you I can fly,
a reward for why I try.
Try... to never hide my feeling,
and false praise never be stealing.
Try... to keep your welfare first
though at times I might burst
with desire to promote my need.

But with you I have no greed.
Try... to know what you want...
so in spirit for that I hunt.

I can agonize with pleasure
hoarding the invisible treasure
of our friendship and love.

Someone who likes me above
does expect of me no less.

But it is almost a sure guess
you and I would be happy together.
As long as that idea is a feather,
with no weight on our souls,
we may fly in separate searches.

But shared values are perchs
from which to survey landscape.
Untethered support needs no escape.
And if to ourselves we turn,
when miseries of life may burn,
please remember such strength.

You and I could go the length,
of whatever challenge or domain,
protecting each other from pain.
Such concern is all too rare.

Such love is heavenly fare.

I hope we continue to grow
such that we always show
each other such limitless trust.
I feel our love is a must! I do.
